# MCP connector
Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, or any MCP client to your workspace: read forms, responses, and analytics on every plan; build, edit, and manage forms on Pro.

Formbear runs an MCP server (Model Context Protocol), so an AI agent can read and, on Pro, build your forms. Every call goes through the same encrypted, workspace-scoped paths as the app, on our own EU infrastructure.

## Connect your client

The endpoint is https://formbear.app/api/mcp. Add it, and when the client connects you sign in to Formbear and choose the workspace it may use.

- Claude.ai and Claude Desktop: Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector.
- ChatGPT: Settings → Connectors, with Developer mode on.
- Claude Code: claude mcp add formbear --transport http https://formbear.app/api/mcp
- Cursor and others: the JSON config below.

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "formbear": {
      "url": "https://formbear.app/api/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

> Signing in uses your normal Formbear account. Finish a magic-link sign-in in the browser that started it.

### Or use an API token

For scripts and tools where you paste a credential once, create a token under Settings → API (owners and admins) and send it as a bearer header. The secret is shown once.

```bash
claude mcp add formbear --transport http https://formbear.app/api/mcp \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer fbk_your_token_here"
```

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "formbear": {
      "url": "https://formbear.app/api/mcp",
      "headers": {
        "Authorization": "Bearer fbk_your_token_here"
      }
    }
  }
}
```

## Tools

| Tool | What it does | Plan |
| --- | --- | --- |
| get_workspace | Workspace name, plan, your role, members | Free |
| list_forms | Your forms with status and response counts | Free |
| get_form | One form in full: blocks with ids, settings, design, URL | Free |
| list_responses | Responses with answers by question, paged and date-bounded | Free |
| get_response | One response by id | Free |
| summarize_responses | Per-question aggregates | Free |
| get_form_analytics | Views, visitors, completion rate, breakdowns (Free: last 7 days) | Free |
| analyze_responses | AI digest of the responses (one monthly AI action) | Free |
| list_form_versions | Version history, last 30 days | Free |
| search_docs | Search these docs | Free |
| create_form | New draft from a title and blocks |  |
| update_form | Rename, or set the whole block list |  |
| add_blocks | Add questions or content at a position |  |
| update_block | Change one block's settings or options |  |
| move_block | Reorder blocks and pages |  |
| remove_blocks | Remove blocks |  |
| publish_form | Make the draft live |  |
| update_form_settings | Open or close, schedule, thank-you, redirect, notifications, retention |  |
| update_form_design | Mode, font, colors, width, controls, custom CSS |  |
| duplicate_form | Copy a form to a new draft |  |
| delete_form | Delete a form (requires its exact title) |  |
| delete_response | Delete one response |  |
| restore_form_version | Make an earlier version the draft |  |

Every question keeps a stable id, so an agent can edit a form that already has responses. A change that would discard answers is refused until the agent confirms with you. Block and design edits go live on the next publish; settings apply immediately.

## Things to try

- “Which of my forms got the most responses this month?”
- “Summarize the onboarding survey and pull out the three most common complaints.”
- “Where did last week’s visitors to the survey come from, and how many finished?”
- “Add an optional phone number after the email on my contact form, then publish.”
- “Close the signup form on Friday at midnight and notify Ada.”

## Scopes

When an app connects with OAuth it can ask for specific scopes, and the consent page lists them: forms:read, forms:write, responses:read, and responses:write. A connection granted any of these is held to exactly those. Apps that ask for none (including connections made before scopes existed) keep full access, gated by your plan and role as before. API tokens always have full access to their workspace.

## The docs server

A second, public MCP server at https://formbear.app/api/mcp/docs serves this documentation (search_docs, get_doc, list_docs) with no sign-in, so an agent can answer questions about Formbear before it is connected to a workspace. Every docs page is also plain markdown at its URL with .md appended.

> Prefer plain HTTP? The same tools are a REST API with an OpenAPI description.

## Privacy and access

The agent acts with your access and sees only your own workspace. Answers are decrypted on our server for that request only; we never hand a raw answer set to a model, and no third party is involved. Same EU hosting, encryption at rest, and privacy policy as the rest of Formbear.

Manage connected apps and tokens under Settings → API. Disconnect or revoke one and it stops immediately; disconnecting an app there is also how you move it to another workspace. Access ends the moment you leave the workspace.
