Link previews and search

How a shared form link looks in Slack, iMessage, X, and LinkedIn, and how to keep a form out of search results.

When you post a form’s link, chat apps and social sites show a preview card: an image, a title, a short description, and the address. Formbear fills these in for every published form, and you can change each of them in the form’s Settings → Sharing. The section shows a live preview of the card.

The generated card

Unless you upload your own image, each published form gets a card drawn from its title and its published design: your colors, light or dark mode, and font. Free forms carry a small “Made with Formbear” mark on the card, the same as on the form itself. The card follows your published design, so publish after a redesign to update it.

Title, description, and image

  • Title: defaults to the form’s name. Set a different one (up to 70 characters) when the name is an internal label. The browser tab keeps the form’s name.
  • Description: defaults to the first paragraph of the form, trimmed. Set your own (up to 200 characters) for a tighter pitch.
  • Image (Pro): upload a PNG, JPEG, or WebP to use instead of the generated card. 1200 × 630 pixels fits every major app without cropping. If the workspace returns to Free, the generated card shows again.

Hiding a form from search engines

New forms start with Hide from search engines on, which asks Google and other search engines not to list the form: most forms are meant for the people you send the link to. Turn it off for a form you want people to find through search. Either way the form stays open to anyone with the link, so it is not a way to restrict access. On a custom domain the preview links to your domain, not to Formbear.
